Kitten Space Agency

I am currently working on a feature for the blog about the development history of Kerbal Space Program and its successor Kerbal Space Program 2, which was one of the most spectacular game launch disasters of recent years. As part of researching this, I have been keeping an eye on Kitten Space Agency, which is a spiritual successor to KSP under development by Dean Hall (the creator of DayZ) and his company RocketWerkz. Unlike the ill-fated KSP 2, Kitten Space Agency actually hired the original inventor who came up with much of the original Kerbal Space Program.
Since Kerbal Space Program was such a special game, and KSP 2 such an unmitigated disaster, I am very happy that KSA continues that legacy and — it seems like very much in the character of the original game.
So now, today, there were especially exciting news as Kitten Space Agency was actually launched to the public for the first time. It’s pre-alpha and very early days, but I installed it and I must say it looks gorgeous already! If you want to try it, it’s available via Dean Hall’s new game distribution platform Ahwoo. If you want, you can also support the game’s development there. The plan is for the game to always be free, if this voluntary contribution model works out. And hey, it’s worked for Star Citizen … space game fans seem to be up for this sort of thing. So far, it’s looking good. At the time of writing, they’ve already collected about $14,000.
I can’t wait to see how this turns out. KSP is one of the most remarkable games in PC history and it does finally deserve a sequel worthy of the original game. KSP 2 has shown that the demand is there, we just need execution on that same level.
